The end of an era: Cartoon Network website disappears

Cartoon Network’s website, a beloved hub for fans for over two decades, no longer exists. As of Friday, visitors to CartoonNetwork.com are greeted by a message directing them to sign up for Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming service, Max.

A significant shift for Cartoon Network

“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required),” the message reads. It also notes that cable subscribers can continue to watch via the linear channel and connected apps.

This move marks a significant shift for Cartoon Network. The website, launched in 1998, was once a treasure trove of free content, featuring full episodes of popular shows like “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Adventure Time,” and “Steven Universe.” Today, those seeking their favorite cartoons are directed to Max, with a subscription required.

Consolidating offerings on Max

The decision appears to be part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader strategy to consolidate its offerings on Max.

It also follows the announcement of Warner Bros. Discovery taking a $9.1 billion impairment charge in its latest quarterly earnings related to its networks division, which includes Cartoon Network and the other cable outlets. The company cited a soft ad market as part the reason for the hit.

While Cartoon Network assures fans they can still interact with the brand on social media and the Cartoon Network app, the loss of the website is a blow for those who enjoyed the free, easily accessible content it provided.
